Yummy!!!

This morning we were very spoilt when Mrs Panther (Miss Panther's mum) brought in a whole plate of cream cakes for us to eat!

There were so many we shared with some of the other teachers in our syndicate!

Yum!

Thanks Mum!

Kei te pānui i te reo Māori (Reading in Māori)

Ruma Waru have been hard at mahi (work) translating some Te Reo readers.

We have been practicing using the correct pronunciation. Most of the time we got it right.

First we picked out nga kupu (words) in te pukapuka (the book) that we already knew.

For example: marae, tamariki, waiata, toru, haere mai, e noho

We then looked at the pictures and decided what we thought the words meant.

Some of us then practiced recording ourselves reading the stories using our ipad.

How do you think we did?

Kei te hiakai ahau! (I'm hungry!)

This term in Room 8 we have been learning how to use Te Reo to talk about Kai (food).

Do you like...?

We have learnt many new kupu (words) and we have begun learning how to ask and answer questions.

He pai ki a koe nga ropere? (Do you like strawberries?)

We can answer:

Ae, e pai ki ahau te ropere! (Yes, I like strawberries.)

Or:

Kaore, e pai ki ahau te ropere! (No, I don't like strawberries!)

This week we will be learning how to ask each other what we have in our lunchboxes...

It's a lovely Friday afternoon and we are using our newly acquired print making skills to create our own xmas paper.

We also have the Xmas carols in the background and we are belting out our favourite tunes.

Tree Planting at the Cycle trail

Last Tuesday we walked down to Karoro Domain with the entire bunch of syndicate 2 children. We took all the teachers and some of our parents as well - just to help carry the shovels and stuff!

When we got there we met Daniel and Krystal and some of their helpers. They showed us how to plant the trees and what plants we were going to be planting. We found out that we are planting to trees to try and make the walkway look better and also to stop erosion.

Each of us were able to plant at least two trees each. Lucky the high school kids were there because it was very hard to dig the holes with all the stones and roots in the ground.

It was a beautiful day and we were all very tired when we got back to school.

Our new ipad!

We LOVE our new ipad! We have made art, music, used it for spelling and maths. We can log into edmodo and we can check our blog. We are addicted to whirly word and adore pic collage. Room 8 are still learning how we can share our amazing work but we are so happy that we are able to use these all the apps we have!
Yay for Mrs O!

Jimmy writes to Kyle Mewburn!! And gets a response...

Hi Kyle,
My name is Jimmy and I am 8yrs old. I love your Dinosaur Rescue books, I currently have 5 of the series. I am writing to you because I have a great idea for a new book in the Dinosaur Rescue series.
It’s called Di-loffo-doffysaurus. Arg goes into the forest after what he thought were loud roars by Skeet, but its turns out that the roars were from a Dilophosaurus which was sleepy and dizzy, Arg has to stop him before he gets to the village.Arg gets help from Skeet to stop the Dilophosaurus
from reaching the village, but it’s pretty tough for Skeet because Dilophosaurus spits venom at there prey.Arg and Skeet succeed, mainly by the loud roar of Skeet which the Dilophosaurus does not like.
I hope you like my idea for a new Dinosaur Rescue book.
Thank you,
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy

WOW! What a great idea. I've never really thought about having a Dilophosaurus in a story. Sounds like a very awesome and dangerous dinosaur! I will definitely write a story with a Dilophosaurus sometime soon. I'm not sure when I'll be writing the next book. Number 7 is in the shops now and number 8 will be in the shops in March next year, I think. Plus we're just making a Dinosaur Rescue activity book which will be fun, I hope. I'm hoping the publishers want a new Dinosaur Rescue next year, because I love writing them.

Anyway, thanks for sharing your great idea. Sorry for not replying sooner too, but I was in Hamilton so didn't have my computer to write emails. (I DID have my phone, but I HATE writing with touch screen letters!! My fingers are too big and I keep typing the wrong letter. It's very annoying.)

I hope you're having a great weekend and doing something fun in the sunshine.

Best wishes,
Kyle

Describe Wilbur using strong adjectives!

Check out this class blog for an activity where you describe Wilbur using your best adjectives.

Wall wisher about Fern!

We are reading Charlotte's Web and we are connecting with children in America to discuss what we think about the story and characters.

We have been experimenting with different technology to see what we like best. Here is an example of a wall wisher! Click below to view it and add to it if you want!
